Tengizchevroil Wins Gold Paryz Award

Tengizchevroil (TCO) was awarded with a Gold Paryz award for Best Collective Agreement in Astana. The Paryz (responsibility in Kazakh) Awards were created in 2008 by President Nursultan Nazarbayev to recognize companies for excellence and leadership in Corporate Responsibility in Kazakhstan. Tengizchevroil's Collective Agreement is a cornerstone of the strong social package provided to employees. Along with collective bargaining, employees benefit from housing loans, annual training, savings programs, health insurance and scholarships and camps for eligible children. These programs have helped TCO to increase national workforce to 83 percent. In 2008, more than 50 high level jobs were nationalized including plant superintendents and supervisors and key finance positions. In 2009, TCO will nationalize approximately another 50 high level jobs including comptroller and several engineering positions.

 

"TCO has a long history of recognizing and respecting the rights of employees and contractors to join associations for the purpose of engaging in collective bargaining," said Sholpan Altybayeva, Tengizchevroil Human Resources General Manager.

 

TCO has had collective agreements in place with employees for 13 years and works with employee representative groups to execute a new collective agreement every three years. TCO's collective agreement is negotiated between company management and two employee groups, the Association of TCO Employees and the Tengiz Complex Trade Union.

 

The collective agreement defines employee rights and company obligations to employees. This agreement also provides a forum to assure employees that their interests are taken into account. Tengizchevroil's first collective agreement was signed in 1996. The most recent version was finalized in late 2008 and expires in November 2011.

 

"TCO has also encouraged contractors to develop collective agreements for their employees and more than 30 TCO contractors have registered agreements with the local Labor Department," said Anuarbek Jakiyev, Tengizchevroil Deputy General Director.
