NGOs reported about 2013 performance

On February 5, 2014 Tengizchevroil hosted an annual meeting of staff with the participation of Atyrau Oblast Akimat representatives, community, Partners and company employees.  NGOs reported on their performance regarding projects executed under the Community Investment Program. Rzabek Artygaliev, General Manager of Policy, Government and Public Affairs Department of TCO gave  a welcoming speech and later the floor was given to Assiya Kystaubaeva, Head of Internal Policy Department of Atyrau Oblast Akimat and Gulmira Shakirova, Deputy Akim of Atyrau. 


Nine NGOs were announced as winners of TCO grants last year. The NGOs work in the area of health, education and the development of civil initiatives in Atyrau Oblast. NGO leaders and representatives presented on their  projects and responded to questions. 


Studying the national language is one of the key focus areas  of TCO’s social projects. And thus Tyldaryn Methodical Center developed an application for iPads, which helps people  learn Kazakh  in an accelerated manner. Z.Kabdolov Fund collected written works of Atyrau writers and made an electronic collection named Aynalayin Atyrau (My beloved Atyrau – trans.from Kazakh). The e-book includes embedded interactive translator of all text and it is free of charge and compatible with all tablet computers.


Some successful projects continued in 2013. For example, results of cooperation between Association of Family Physicians of Kazakhstan (AFPK) and TCO was noted in VIII KAZENERGY Eurasian Forum. This joint project seeks to increase the quality of services provided to patients suffering from hypertension. It was announced as the  winner in the category of  Best Project in Corporative Social Responsibility. AFPK work  informs patients suffering from hypertension, and their relatives as well as community about disease symptoms, necessary measures in case of exacerbation, and also preventive measures. The project included formation of a hypertension school, delivery of e-mail reminders  about when to take  medicine and other useful recommendations. During the  year  public engagement campaigns were held to help people  measure their blood pressure and raise awareness about  hypertensionand cardiovascular disease. 


The  IT Century Project was also continued. IREX has been providing training for teachers aiming to popularize the internet  as an educational  tool. With improved  web skills, project leaders hope to make the education process more interesting and all-round. Additionally, according to them, as of today internet and PC skills are critical in getting employed. Besides the trainings IREX has one more direction of activities; that is technical PC support and provision of internet access in schools of Atyrau and Zhylyoi District. 


Association of Business Women of Kazakhstan provides support to development of women entrepreneurship and employment. Having take part in the CIP, the Association based a training center in Atyrau. 142 unemployed women were provided workshops in the training center in 2013 and 50 of them were employed and 20 women started their own business after the trainings. Project leaders hope that all women, who took part in the trainings, will find their niche and be successful in the business. 


Independent Generation of Kazakhstan NGO is a long-time partner of TCO, last year they continued working on problems of children and youth. Ulugbek Tnaliev, manager New Life Project hopes that children left without parents will gain new families. Thanks to cooperation with TCO a foster parents’ school was founded in Atyrau, it prepares potential parents for adopting. Free seminars and trainings are intended to train dads and moms to create conditions for balanced growth of children.


Another direction of work supported by TCO in 2013 was greening and beautification projects in Atyrau. Alshy Fund activists planted about half thousand trees in yards of the university, schools and kindergartens. All areas were assigned to volunteers who regularly had maintained them.

Eurasian Fund of Central Asia (EFCA) is a long-term partner of TCO in Community Investment Program also supported such intentions of volunteers to beautify yards on Atyrau and Kulsary. Residents initiatives gave results – there appeared trees and playgrounds in their yards. 


PYXERA Global, an international nongovernmental organization, actively involved TCO employees and their family members to volunteerism during all 2013 period. Overall 60 persons were engaged in different campaigns. Besides such participation the volunteers shared their skills and knowledge with various NGOs, which need qualified consultation regarding finance, legal and IT.    


Since 2009 Tengizchevroil is following community-private model of partnership aimed at joining efforts of NGOs, state entities and business to search for sustainable solutions of social important problems. Annual budget of TCO Community Investment Program is above $1 MM.
