On May 23-24, 2015 a chess tournament among city and oblast schools students at the age of 7-16. This year it is the second time the tournament dedicated to International Children’s Day is conducted on the eve of summer vacation. The tournament is organized by Tengizchevroil.
David MacInnis, Deputy General Manager of Policy, Public and Government Affairs Department of TCO, welcomed the participants on behalf of TCO management and extended his hope that chess will become more popular and attract more enterprises to support this prominent and the highest intellectual type of sport.

The opening ceremony was attended by Nurzhan Ermukhanov, Head of Oblast Tourism, Physical Training and Sport Department and Arman Azamatov, Deputy Head of Youth Policy Affairs Department. Both guests congratulated young chess players with International Children’s Day and upcoming summer vacation and on behalf of B.Izmukhambetov, Akim of Atyrau Oblast they extended аppreciation to Tengizchevroil for arranging the sport event.
The tournament was carried out according to Swiss system (FIDE Code) in 2 stages. About 100 children with different sports categories participated in the preliminary game stage and following final stage. Those who had no sports categories were provided to pass qualification-based selection before the tournament. The judgment was entrusted to a panel consisting of Atyrau Oblast Chess Federation lead by Sabyrbai Gaisin, Vice-President of the Federation. The players were grouped as under 8, 9-12 years old and 13-16 years old.
As per the results of 2-days tournament 18 participants won prizes. Nurlykhan Kudaibergenov became the winner in “Boys under 8” category and Zukhra Sarsenbi won the gold in “Girls under 8”. Zhambyl Nuradil and Zhazira Boran were champions in the second age group and Nurbol Galymzhanuly and Dilyara Gabitova were leaders in the third group. All prize winners were given gifts certificates, appreciation letters and promotional gifts. The total prize fund was more than 500 000 KZT.
The Chess Tournament, actively supported by TCO, is not the only example of all-round support to Atyrau Oblast youth. The Company is funding a great number of projects under Community Investment Program with significant engagement of the children along with our partners. As of chess, along with kids’ tournament, TCO has been organizing Annual Chess Festival dedicated to RoK Independence Day.
