When it comes to local content, measuring our performance is important to track our success. Calculation and reporting of Kazakhstani content spent is one of the legal requirements for TCO. It’s in our best interests to ensure that TCO suppliers are familiar with methodology of KC calculation. On a quarterly basis we conduct relevant training for our Business Partners that cover certain aspects of Subsoil Use Code and governmental decrees, which govern the calculation of local content, basic concepts and definitions, and examples of calculating KC in goods and services spent. Please note that this training is dedicated to TCO’s current suppliers and contractors only.
In Ak-Orda, at a solemn ceremony dedicated to the 125th Anniversary of Kazakhstan’s oil and gas industry, the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan (RoK) awarded a number of employees of the industry. One of the awardees was Kevin Lyon, General Director of Tengizchevroil LLP (TCO).
– As it’s known, the first oil was produced in Atyrau Oblast at the turn of the century. Since then, hydrocarbons have played a significant role in the national economy. No wonder oil is called as “black gold”. The development of civilization and its technical achievements are bonded with development of energy resources. They are drivers of scientific and technological progress. Undoubtedly, oil production in our country has also contributed to this important process, – said the Mr. President.
During his solemn speech, Mr. Tokayev highlighted contribution made to the development of the industry by such leading global oil and gas corporations as Chevron, ExxonMobil, CNPC, Eni, Shell, Lukoil, Total and Sinopec.
– Development of Tengiz, Kashagan, Karachaganak fields and implementation of CPC project are bright examples of mutually beneficial cooperation between the government and the investors. Thanks to an open and balanced policy, Kazakhstan is tightly integrated into the global economy and attracts a large amount of investments, – highlighted Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev.
At the end of the solemn meeting, Mr. President presented state awards to citizens who have made a significant contribution to development of petroleum industry. TCO General Director Kevin Lyon was awarded with the 2nd degree Dostyk Order. The award symbolizes recognition of importance of international cooperation in oil and gas industry and underlines TCO’s role in economic development of the country.
Due to successful implementation of major projects and introduction of advanced technologies, TCO continues to increase oil and gas production ensuring stable supplies to domestic and international markets.
Last year, crude oil production amounted to 28.9 million metric tons (230.6 million barrels), while the overall intensity of emissions into the atmosphere decreased to the lowest level since 2000. In the last decade only (2015-2024), has TCO been able to provide reliable revenues to the Republic of Kazakhstan, reaching over 98% of the average reliability of plant equipment in Base Business. During the past year, all sales of gas were carried out in the domestic market of Kazakhstan and TCO remained a reliable supplier of LPG to the population and industry.
According to the results of an independent study for the period 2010-2021, TCO production activities provided approximately 11% of the country’s GDP annually. TCO continues to play a leading role in stimulating economic progress and energy security in Kazakhstan.
