Tengizchevroil Update on June 29 Situation at Tengiz

1 July 2019, Atyrau – On June 29, an interpersonal conflict took place among workers at the 3GP construction site causing several injuries of contractor employees. TCO treated more than 40 workers for non-life-threatening injuries.

Relevant government authorities and law enforcement agencies were duly notified and arrived on site to establish a safe and secure environment for all personnel at Tengiz.

TCO’s production operations are running as normal. Work at the FGP 3GP construction site is temporarily suspended and TCO is assessing the appropriate time to resume activities. All other FGP construction sites have resumed work.

The Akim of Atyrau Oblast, Mr. Nogayev and TCO General Director, Mrs. Bonner went to Tengiz and met with TCO, contractor leadership and the Tengiz workforce. An Interagency Commission chaired by the First Deputy Akim of Atyrau Oblast, Mr. Shapkenov was established to help investigate the cause of the incident and provide recommendations. TCO will be a member of the commission.

On June 30, Mr. Dosmukhambetov, First Vice-Minister of Energy and Mr. Marabayev, Deputy Chairman of NC “KazMunayGas” JSC, TCO Partnership Council Chairman met with TCO Leadership team to discuss the situation, TCO’s action plan and to provide support and assistance.   

The situation at Tengiz is stable as of now.
