Tengizchevroil LLP (TCO) took part in the 23rd North Caspian Regional Exhibition Atyrau Oil & Gas 2026, which brought together 85 companies from Austria, Azerbaijan, Germany, India, Kazakhstan, China, Poland, and the United States. This year, the key theme of the event was “Digital Transformation of the Oil and Gas Industry: Strategy, Technologies, and Economic Impact.”

During the Atyrau Oil & Gas 2026 forum, TCO shared insights into its digital initiatives and their contribution to improving the safety, reliability, and efficiency of production operations. Due to the scale of the Tengiz and Korolev fields and the technological complexity associated with developing giant and deep reservoirs, advanced technologies have been implemented at TCO throughout the company’s history. The establishment of a digital culture began with training all employees in essential computer skills and knowledge. Early adoption of digital solutions significantly improved internal communications and enabled timely and efficient data and expertise exchange.

Digital transformation at TCO is an evolutionary process that has accompanied the company for many years. We consistently implement technologies that help improve production efficiency and safety,” said Stephen Conner, Operations General Manager of TCO.

Digital transformation, like all other initiatives at TCO, is implemented with an unwavering focus on operational safety, occupational health, technological integrity, and environmental protection. The company prioritizes digital initiatives and products that enhance the safety of people and production processes, while also contributing to the reduction of the carbon footprint.

At the Integrated Processing Line (IPL), the implementation of the Virtual Plant solution, which integrates real‑time data from instrumentation across the entire facility, helped support improved production performance.

One of the most large‑scale and strategically important projects for the company is the Future Growth Project — Wellhead Pressure Management Project (FGP‑WPMP) at the Tengiz field. It is the largest capital project not only in Kazakhstan but also in the global oil and gas industry. Planning, engineering solutions, and logistics posed significant challenges, requiring new approaches.

As part of the project, TCO deployed the SWIFT digital solution, which ensures that work is executed at the right time. SWIFT is an integrated software platform used to forecast system completion and plan work fronts, enabling more effective management of activities along the FGP‑WPMP’s critical path.

The project also demonstrated the effectiveness of Microsoft HoloLens, an ergonomic, wireless, standalone holographic device equipped with enterprise applications. The use of Microsoft HoloLens improves task accuracy and efficiency through hand and eye tracking, built‑in voice commands, spatial mapping, and an extended field of view. The technology allows employees to interact with holograms, collaborate with colleagues.

Major turnarounds at the SGP and IPL facilities are also supported by digital solutions, including electronic work permits, electronic pre‑startup safety reviews, integrated operation control centers, and enhanced mobility enabled by a private LTE network, industrial Wi‑Fi, and the LoRaWAN Internet of Things network. These solutions provide instant access to data directly at production sites and help ensure that all safety requirements and measures are in place and functioning prior to the start of work.

In addition, TCO has developed a dedicated application that allows employees to submit ideas aimed at simplifying and reducing routine tasks. Submitted proposals are reviewed by the Digital Department, where potential solutions are developed. Following an assessment of production needs and economic feasibility, the Digital Champion approves initiatives for further implementation.

Thus, TCO continues to evolve consistently, contributing not only to the country’s economy but also to the development of digital technologies in Kazakhstan. The company actively shares its digital business solutions with business partners, contractors, and shareholders, thereby promoting corporate values and industry best practices.
